Here at BAFA Fishing we are devoted to creating fishing tackle that is a step above the mass produced baits that the big guys put out. During our first year we have come out with 2 products, the Primal jig and the F8 jig head. Both baits have a few unique characteristics that help set them apart from the majority of jigs on the market. We are going to use our first ever blog post to highlight the Primal jig, but we will definitely be following up with another post for the smallmouth magnet that is the F8 jig head!

The Primal jig was our first ever product. Bill Mathews, BAFA Fishing's founder is a jig fanatic to say the least. Creating a better jig was the initial inspiration for BAFA Fishing. The two biggest problems that most mass produced jigs have are terrible hook keepers and junky rubber bands to hold the skirt on the jig head. Bill was SICK and TIRED of skipping docks with jigs that constantly had trailers slipping down or worse, the entire skirt falling off the jig. Not only was it annoying, but it also wastes so much time on the water. Efficiency is crucial when skipping a jig around docks, especially in a tournament fishing setting. Oftentimes success in a tournament is determined by the sheer amount of docks you are able to get your bait under. The individual that fishes the most docks wins more times than not. Bill wanted to create a jig that would help him increase his efficiency with a jig around docks. The Primal jig was the answer to the two main issues outlined earlier. First, the bait keeper. Bill wanted to improve upon the traditional single barbed bait keeper on most jigs. While traditional bait keepers are typically good enough for off shore fishing, they do not hold up to the wear and tear a jig goes through when fishing docks properly. The Primal jig employs a 8-micro barb system that absolutely locks trailers in place. Both Bill and numerous customers have reported catching a dozen or more fish on a single trailer before slippage or ripping occurs. This not only keeps your bait presentable and in the strike zone longer than most other jigs, but it also helps you save money on soft plastics! 

Secondly, we wanted to address the cheap rubber bands that big companies use to mass produce jigs and cut costs. Skipping a jig properly requires a lot of friction between the jig and the surface of the water. Rubber bands just are not built for that type of fishing. They wear out quickly and will start slipping down the shank of the hook. Every time this happens, you are missing out on a key cast in the strike zone. Not to mention they will eventually tear off and render the jig useless. The Primal jig offers anglers a hand wire-tied skirt that will not budge under even the harshest of conditions. Does this take a lot longer than slipping a skirt on with a rubber band? YES, but the benefit of having a jig that actually lasts, AND saves you time on the water is essential in our eyes.

Additionally, we strive to create baits in colors that bass actually eat. There are so many companies that create dozens of different color schemes for a single product. Oftentimes they are looking to catch fishermen with their never ending color offerings, not fish. We wanted to stick to the basics and focus on keeping the best colors in stock to the best of our abilities. It is so frustrating when your favorite bait is completely sold out of the 2-3 colors you ACTUALLY need and yet there are 22 other useless colors in stock.
