Don’t be stupid, throw a jig

Don’t be stupid, throw a jig

The title of this article may sound harsh, however, it needed to be said.

There is a reason the Primal Jig was the first product we came out with. A jig is one of the most tried and true bass tactics ever invented. Not only does it flat out catch fish, it generates bigger bites than most other lures.

Truly giant bass are not looking to exert a ton of energy for a meal. They are often looking for something slow moving, and calorie rich. Something that they do not have to work hard to capture. A jig is the perfect bait to deceive ole Bertha into eating. I cannot begin to tell you how many 5+ pound bass I have caught over the years on a jig. Additinally, my personal best, 10.56 lber, also fell victim to a jig.

Not only does it get big bites, jigs are also great because of their versatility. They can literally be fished any time throughout the year. Slow and cold spring bass? Drag a jig around slowly near steep breaks like points and bluff walls. Bass are moving up and getting ready to spawn? Target cover like rocks and lay downs up shallow that hold heat. Those are the first places bass like to pull up. Summertime heat is hitting? Back down deep they go, drag a jig low and slow!

You can easily resemble baitfish, crawfish, and gills just by switching up the color of your jig too. Whatever forage the bass are keyed in on, a jig is a worthy choice to mimic them perfectly. There truly is never a "bad" time to throw a jig.

The next time you are out on the water, do not try and overcomplicate things. If you are unsure of what bait to throw, tie a jig on and lock it in your hands. You will NOT be disappointed!! If you are looking for a great all around jig that can skip, has a the best bait keeper in the game and also boasts a wire tied skirt, definitely check out the Primal jig
